So a few days ago, I let you know that I was going to give you the start of how I got into motivational speaking. Well it just so happens that I was interviewed by an amazing author Donta Morrison for his Blog.
Click Here to see how I got into Motivational Speaking.
So here is a little background on Donta and I. A few years ago, I was a part of an Networking Organization and Donta and I crossed paths. I was a few years into my Motivational Speaking career and by this time was enjoying the success of my 1st two books.
Before I go any further, let me give you the background on Donta:
A graduate of Springfield College with a degree in Human Services, Dontá Morrison has over 10 years of experience working within the field of HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment. He has worked closely with various community based organizations and developed strong ties within the field of HIV education and prevention; having assisted on research projects for UCLA, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, PALMS/CDI Faith Based Initiative, In The Meantime Men’s Group and AIDS Project Los Angeles.
In addition, he has facilitated HIV 101 workshops for the Tavis Smiley Leadership Institute and inmates within Los Angeles’ Men’s Central Jail and Victorville Federal Prison. He is featured in educational films for Kaiser Permanente Hospital promoting the importance of HIV treatment; Appeared on city-wide billboards for AIDS Project Los Angeles; and can also be seen giving commentary in the documentary “Faces of HIV” -produced by actor/director Bill Duke- that focuses on the plight of HIV within the Black community. Most recent he has become one of the faces for an international media campaign for Gilead Pharmaceuticals.
Dontá is a licensed minister and well versed in the functions of the African American Faith Based community. He has been privileged to conduct workshops on HIV/AIDS within that arena and successfully offered guidance on how to discuss sex in a culturally sensitive manner. Understanding that open dialogue is one of the best ways to bring about clarity, he has positioned himself to be a sought after speaker who brings welcomed input to some very uncomfortable conversations. His stance on sex, sexuality, and sexual orientation has raised eyebrows and challenged individuals to remove their blinders and think outside the box. His comedic yet realistic approach to the topic has been applauded by the church and praised by pastors nationwide. To learn more about Donta visit DontaMorrison.com.
How Donta caught my attention was the simple fact that he was not only doing motivational speaking around HIV his message was focused on youth and educating this them in the arena of HIV/AIDS.
If you know me in anyway, you know that if someone has a message for youth/teens that is to empower them emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically, I will carry their banner high and strong because in my eyes we are all on a mission to make a difference with them.
You will find a lot of nuggets about me and my motivational speaking in this Exclusive Interview with Donta. The interview was absolute fun and amazing. What stuck out to me though was the fact that at the end of our interview I witnessed so much growth. Not only in Donta (who is always a hoot and will call a thing a thing in a heartbeat) but also in myself.
Sometimes in my motivational speaking career, I am always so focused on what I have not done that I often times loose site of what I have done and accomplished.
So, my during my next blog, I will dig a little further into the moment that had my Motivational speaking career become what it is today. All I gotta say is it involves Poetry, $25 and A Men’s Bathroom.
To Your Dreams Fulfilled!
