There is no longer a need to spend money on seeing a tax preparer for a simple return. TurboTax online is free to file your federal tax return. Your state return can also be filed, for a fee. You can E-file now with TurboTax and get free Federal tax filing and preparation.

Not only is the software free, it’s easy to use.

The system walks you through each step and provides an explanation of some of the tricky steps. Worksheets can be done as you go through the steps for things like Earned Income Credit, Child Tax Credit, donations, and other small itemized items.

If you should get stuck on a step, live help is available for free. There are no fees for e-filing, the only fee to be paid would be that of the state tax return if you choose to use the software and do both at one time.

Questions will be asked along the way to see if you qualify for additional deductions and credits. The goal is to help you through filing your own taxes without needing a tax preparation professional and to get you the largest refund possible.

You can go back and fix it

You may notice your refund amount changing throughout the process, but this is normal. As each step is taken, a calculation is done to show you how the information you put-in affected the return. If you think that something was forgotten or not put in correctly, you can go back and fix it before finalizing the return.

After the return is finished and confirmed, TurboTax will email you as soon as the IRS accepts the return. An estimated date of when the refund can be expected is also provided. Direct deposit or a mailed paper check refund can be selected, and it is important to remember that direct deposit is the faster option.
