Hammerhead Shark at The Jersey Shore – Video

by | on August 23, 2012

A hammerhead shark among the waves at the Jersey Shore near Seaside Heights and Island Beach State Park was caught in a brief video by a visitor to Island Beach State Park, New Jersey earlier this month.

It isn’t exactly rare to have a Hammerhead off the coast of New Jersey. In fact, a lot of shark species and rays come to New Jersey to spawn. The water temperatures have been extremely warm as well.

No, Snookie, The Situation, Paulie D, or the rest of the Jersey Shore cast were not involved.

In the beginning of the video, a fin of a possible shark is seen among the waves. As a wave crashes, the hammerhead can be spotted under the water about 50 feet from the beach. The Jersey Shore shark attacks of 1916 were a series of shark attacks along the coast of New Jersey between July 1 and July 12, 1916, in which four people were killed and one injured. It was believed that those killings were of a Brown shark and not a Hammerhead.

Posted Aug. 13, the user says the sighting was actually made several days before.
