The customs jobs in the Customs and Border Protection agency of the U.S. are seriously challenging and sometimes very highly demanding. Often abbreviated as CPB, the Customs and Border Protection is an agency of the Department of Homeland Security and its mandate is to secure the borders of the United States of America.

Customs jobs: entry specialist

This is one of the challenging customs jobs. It involves the screening of cargo and passengers, the seizure products that are illegal and the prevention of illegal; immigration   in to the U.S.  The pay scale varies depending on the experience and nature of duties assigned.

The specialist works with the customs brokers as regards the carriers and importers that carried them with the goal of ensuring that there is compliance with the laws and regulations of imports in to the US.

There is an automated system that assists the entry specialists in discharging their mandate.  The officer in this position has the power and authority of reporting broker for misconduct and initiating penalties, fines or sanctions against the brokers that break the laws.

Customs jobs: dog handler

Traditionally, the dog handlers in the CPB had the mandate of   detecting and preventing the trafficking of narcotics. After 9/11, their mandate has been broadened to include prevention of terrorism.

The officers   in this department are now involved in the screening of passengers in the airports and other U.S. entry points.  The candidates for these customs jobs must have undergone canine management and training. They should additionally have completed the Customs and Border Protection dog cops coursework.
