League of Legends : This Game is a Scam and in its Death Throes

by | on February 2, 2012

I’ve been reading League of Legends forums about how people are getting permabanned for QQing and raging in chat, regardless of how much money is put into an account.

Keep in mind, permabanning in LOL isn’t really ‘permabanning’ anyone, its just LOL making the player re-level and make a new account. They don’t touch the IP address. Its just a grab from RIOT to make more money, they dont care about how much someone is raging or afking in games…they only want to sell more overpriced champions and skins. That much is painfully obvious.

Seems to me like a person abusing the chat system should be suspended or banned from chatting, not removed from their account unless they are glitching / hacking, but this type of ban doesen’t generate revenue. Heres the reality of the situation..

Over christmas I got my DOTA 2 key from STEAM coal + a free copy of DOTA 2 since I completely abused the Christmas sales on STEAM and have supported Valve for years.

Upon logging into DOTA 2, it quickly becomes painfully obvious why Riot is trying to make as much money as possible as fast as possible using the tribunal: they don’t have the creative ingenuity to compete with DOTA 2. DOTA 2 literally smashes this game on every level, I’m not saying this out of spite, or opinion based on the tribunal system or anything…they are just two completely different levels of product.

HON for example, (Heroes ofNnewerth) is a good game. In many superior to LOL in terms of tactics and other things, but DOTA 2 does to HON exactly what it does to LOL…it makes it look amateur.

I personally believe the tribunal is a cash-grab Riot is using to fund other projects where they can be more competitive in the POST DOTA 2 launch era. All these people saying that the tribunal is good/bad is irrelevant. It’s the death throes of a company who has seen their competition.

I mean the tribunal aside, where is the high elo champion balance? Why are the bundles such garbage and still have nearly $500 of champion unlocks not including skins after buying all bundles in LOL? Why are skins $10 a piece? Why not hire a department that deals with customer reports, why regulate that to a tribunal system where you employ the community to handle your customer service? (Riot can afford it, $10 a skin!)

The bottom line is, the whole system is a cash grab. Riot doesen’t plan on LOL staying a serious competitive game on the pro gaming circuit. They don’t plan on truly innovating anything. They want to crank out new champions at $10 a piece and get out as many as possible before DOTA 2 hits.

They want to ban the paying players in the tribunal who have paid the most money because they are the most likely to buy new accounts and re-pay for champions prior to DOTA 2′s launch. There is no competition right now, and Riot is trying to capitalize before real companies with real products make it on the scene and are ready for mass consumption.

I still play LOL on and off,(due to only a small number of my friends being in the DOTA 2 beta) and post to these forums from time to time…but I don’t support the cash grab.

Companies should value their customers and try to earn a place in the market due to ingenuity and creative competence. With the Tribunal, Riot hasn’t done anything but jack up the number of ripoff reports and scam reports on the various consumer reporting sites, which..especially for a gaming company is the mark of death.

Support better products guys. Its not worth asking Riots for ‘reasoning’ for your bans or asking for any real value from the money you may have spent here. This is a 1 hit wonder company, and they know it and they are already preparing to flee when the big dogs of the game developing community descend on this genre.
