We all love Valentines Day but haven’t it come to our mind as to why is it called Valentines Day?

Like any other occasion, Valentines Day too has its own history and the mystery behind why is it called Valentines Day. However, it is not so popularly told to everyone. Try asking one person, expect to receive different answers or nothing at all.

That is why, I am making this article to share a brief detail regarding why is it called Valentines Day.

Let us start then. The name Valentines if you can observe seems to be a name of a person. And yes Valentines indeed is a real person but sadly only a few people know about him.

So now who and why is it called Valentines Day?

Honestly, the Valentines Day was not coined until a Roman priest named Valentine came into view during the third century AD. For the emperor that time, Claudius II banned soldiers from getting married believing that it will be a distraction to focus during their fight.

So it was Priest Valentines who stood tall because the decree was totally unfair. Well, it just proved why because he was a romantic at heart and no wonder why is it called Valentines day.

He confronted and disobeyed the emperor and willingly performed marriage ceremonies. After this was found out, Valentines was put to jail. With a flaming heart and burning love, there he fell in love with the jailor’s blind daughter. His love was super strong and courageous and belief for God for it was able to cure her love’s blindness.

Then, it was on the 14th of February when Priest Valentine was finally put to death. His last message for his love was a letter signed with, “From your Valentine”.
As Christianity had spread throughout Rome, a decision was made to move Lupercalia from February 15 to February 14 and changed it into St. Valentine’s Day to honor Saint Valentine.

So now you know how and why is it called Valentines Day? Thanks to the enduring heart of Priest Valentine, we are celebrating even for only a day for love and emotions.
