The Power of Certainty

Believing in something with absolute certainty is very powerful, especially in your own personal life. I’ve been seeing this over and over again in my life. Sometimes without even realizing until I actually thought about it years later.
Many years ago, I used to play basketball with a lot of my friends every single weekend and sometimes during the week as well. Well, I wasn’t the best player around but it was crazy how I would make the most unbelievable shots ever, time after time.
I might not have been the best player around, but I was the tallest which helped me out a lot. Every time I would get the ball, I wouldn’t try to take it in because I was afraid to lose it. There were some really good players there and I knew they weren’t going to let me get past them, so I always shot from far (or tried anyways).
I tried a lot of different shots until I made one, which was a lot easier than I thought. What I would do was run around everyone right on the inside of the 3-point line, if you could imagine this. I would get the ball and run around the rim, without actually getting any closer to it. I found that the only way that I could keep the ball was staying on the outside.
The first time I tried this it was awesome, because I made it. Here’s what happened. I had the ball (obviously) and was walking around everyone while staying on the inside of the 3-point line like I mentioned. I was dribbling with my right hand, while everyone was on the inside to my left, and as soon as I was directly in front of the rim, I did a hook shot.
As soon as I did this, here’s what I saw in slow motion. I was walking around everyone and I just stop directly in front of the rim (in between the 3-point line and the free-throw line). I held the ball in my right hand and look at the rim to my left. I focused on the rim and kind of blurred everyone else out. I’m looking at the rim and reach my right hand out and swing it over my head. As I was letting go of the ball with my fingers, it felt so perfect. As soon as I let go, I knew with absolute certainty that ball was going in.
I saw everyone follow the ball with their heads. The guy that was guarding me looked like he wasn’t really threatened by my shot. It was like he knew I wasn’t going to make it as he turned around. Since I was directly in front of the rim, I saw the ball go in a straight line while seeing everyone’s faces fill with anticipation.
The ball came down and it was the most beautiful swish I had ever seen in my entire life.
Of course my team was full of excitement and I also saw some faces that quite didn’t believe that it went in. They were shocked with amazement.
Don’t ask me why I decided to shoot it like that. That was the first time ever I had tried that type of shot. After this happened, every single time I tried that same shot, it went in. I was full of certainty every time I shot it. After all, if I did it once meant I could do it again.
Absolute Certainty
Thinking back to that day, the reason the ball went in every single time was the fact that I shot the ball with absolute certainty that the ball was going in. If I had even the smallest doubt in my mind, I would’ve missed.
This is the power of certainty. Think about it. If you do something with a doubt in your mind that something will go wrong, you will just fail. Not because it’s not possible, but because you doubt yourself and you’re acting on it.
On the other hand, if you do something believing it’s going to work with absolute certainty, you’re going to do everything in your power to make it work –mentally, emotionally, and physically.
This is why I didn’t miss any hook shots after that initial one. I just kept picturing the ball going in every single time before I actually shot it. This was the level of certainty I had towards the shot, and it went in every single time.
Having that much certainty in something is very powerful.
It is more than just believing in something. It’s when you just know it’s going to happen.
The power of certainty is something I’ve learned in the Empower Network Inner Circle. That product is amazing. Go check it out.
