Why Most People Never Rank Or Get Traffic From Their Keyword.
The majority of people who are new never do any keyword research. They just pick a subject and start to write posts and articles. They have no idea what the competition truly is or if any one is even looking for it. If they get lucky they might pick one with low competition and decent search numbers. The fact is we are not in business to maybe rank well or maybe get traffic. We are here to get to the top off the search engines and get traffic so we can cash in.
Why Is It Important To Use The Right Keyword?
That is an easy question. To get to the top of the search engines, and get traffic to your site. If you do the proper research you will find the amount of monthly searches, and true competition level for each keyword. When you do this you can center your posts and articles around the ones with decent search numbers, and lower competition. This will allow you to not just rank higher, but actually generate traffic. If done properly this will save you so much time and effort while getting results
Finding The Right Keyword Is A 2 Step Process.
In order to determine the right keyword you must first discover the amount of searches per month and the true competition level for it. This is a 2 step process that most new marketers don’t know about. The 2 Steps are as follows:
1. Determine search traffic using Google keyword tool external.
This is a free tool provided by google. It shows how many searches a particular word or phrase gets per month. It will even give suggested words or phrases similar to what you chose and the number of searches for each. Make a list of the ones relevant to the topic you are considering.
This tool shows two different amounts of searches. Global and local. Local is the one you care about. Record the number for each word or phrase you are thinking about using. .
2. Determine your true competition.
If you go to Google search and simply type in your work or phrase, you will get a ridiculous number of sites. This is not your true competition. This will show any site that has the word or phrase and even any variance or combination of it in the title, summary, url, or anchor.
Here is the secret to finding your true competition. In Google search type this:
intitle:”your keyword” intitle:”your keyword” inanchor:”your keyword.
Make sure to have the quotation marks around each one and a space between each command. Example:
intitle:”empower network”(space) intitle:”empower network”(space) inanchor”empowernetwork”
It should go without saying but don’t type in the word space! Just put one there.
The number of sites you see now, is your real competition. Each one of these sites will have the word or phrase in the title, URL, and anchor text. Record the number of sites for each word or phrase chosen.(Now keep in mind this process only works if you are using proper on page SEO for your posts and articles.)
How To Use This Keyword Information Properly
You now have a list of words and phrase, how many searches each one gets, and the number of sites you will be competing with. Now what?
Look for the right combination of searches versus competition. A good guide to follow is to keep the competing sites under 25-30,000, and the number of searches above at least 100 per month. Now this is only a guide! Use your own judgement when it comes to deciding the right combination. Just don’t try to rank for a word or phrase that has 10,000,000 competing sites with 50 searches. it’s a waste of time!
Now that you have the perfect word or phrase chosen, write your content and syndicate the snot out off it. You will be ranking well and generating traffic for this keyword in no time!
