When you feel hungry, wait ten or fifteen minutes before you eat. It is common to feel hunger when you are in need of hydration. Boredom can bring this on as well. Drink some water, then go take a walk for fifteen minutes. If you feel like you still need to eat then perhaps it may be time to nourish your body.

You must consume fat in order to burn it. All types of fat are not created equally; for instance, omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids are generally left out of preservative-filled foods you find at the store. But, such fatty acids are plentiful in legumes and in fish, and facilitate weight loss and healthy hearts.

Before leaving for work in the morning, allocate some time for breakfast. If you don’t have time to cook, your first instinct may be to just grab a breakfast pastry on your way out. This is the worst thing you can do. By eating a simple yet nutritious meal of oatmeal, fruit, whole-grain cereal or low-fat yogurt at home each morning, you eliminate the need to stop at that coffee shop or fast-food restaurant for a calorie-laden breakfast.

If you realize that your own actions are contributing to your weight problem, be forgiving of yourself. This will allow you to increase your level of motivation for your diet and exercise regimen. Never allow yourself to dwell on an unhealthy past, but rather stay focused on your new sense of motivation and commitment.

Losing 1-2 pounds each week is a healthy rate of weight loss. When you are more overweight, the drops may be larger; however, do not try for excessive loss as this can be counter-productive.

Hang that “too small to wear” outfit in a very obvious place. This will help you find a source of focus as you lose weight. When you are tempted to have a snack, the clothing will be there to remind you how badly you want to wear it once you reach your weight loss goal. It is a good way to stay encouraged to keep your diet on the right track.

Switch to hummus or a fat free dip for a healthier topping for salads and vegetables. That way, you can cut your fat and calories tremendously.

Keep track of the calories you consume. This can be done in a lined journal or notepad. Use this notebook as a journal for tracking your food intake. Write down what foods you ate, how much you had, and the total number of calories you consumed. This way, you can monitor your eating to ensure you stick to the plan.

Now that you have the secrets of weight loss at your disposal, you’re ready to begin a program to shed some pounds and start feeling and looking great! The best part is being able to fit into your clothes again! Start applying the tips you’ve read now, and start working toward a fitter, healthier body!
