Freelance Writers Find Blog Jobs Fun

As a freelance copywriter I come across many blog jobs because I am a provider to numerous online sites who hire bloggers. But the other day I was assigned to write voice over copy for a corporate video that really gave me reason to be grateful for my writing career and the ability to work from home on my own time.

I live in Green Bay WI and am about a 40 minutes drive from Kimberly Clark’s corporate headquarters in Neenah WI. I have made a career of video production and copywriting over the past 30 years or so in my local area. (Keep you guessing my age!)

So a couple of days ago I was in the offices of a local video production house and they asked if I could handle a quick and easy copywriting job for KC. All they needed was for me to write four minutes of voice over copy for a corporate video. Timing was good since I was between blog jobs.

They explained the project to me and I sat down the next morning to begin writing. Now I have written numerous corporate videos for almost any department in any corporation. I have written many different videos for Human Resources, numerous sales training videos, manufacturing videos.

I have written for insurance companies, office furniture companies, boat and ship builders, machinery and medical. I consider my experience to be vast and I find that it allows me to pick up the subject matter quickly. In most cases, I find something interesting about every project because it brings me to a world unknown to me and I love to learn about anything.

That is why I love blog jobs. I love to research and learn a new subject and to deliver quality content to others. I like to read something that the blogger I am writing for has written so I can try to catch their voice and deliver content that appears as it has been written by them.

Anyway, back to this project. The video was for manufacturing teams who are in charge of setting up new machines. Setting up these machines are a huge project and the support staff that is required for its set up and test run is pretty impressive. But to me, it was so boring.

Now I am grateful that there are people in this world who do this because without them we would not have toilet paper.

But it made me so grateful that I can do what I do from the comfort of my home. Freelance writing has allowed me the luxury of being the keeper of my time. Of course, I am still on a schedule but it is my schedule. I can choose to spend 6 hours a day writing in the comfort of my home or I can choose to spend 2 hours writing, and spend an hour at the gym in the middle of the day when I have the equipment to myself and personal trainers are hanging around looking for something to do.

Blog jobs are plentiful in today marketplace. The internet has created an insatiable need for content and although the quality may leave a bit to be desired the need is persistent and never ending. If you are looking for a blog job breaking into the marketplace may take some patience. The key to your success is to keep writing. Write everyday whether you have an assignment or not because like anything else, the more you write, the better you get and the better you get the more likely you are to be chosen for a blog job.
