Merry Christmas From the South Pacific

Legendary Kupe, Polynesian Voyager, Lands on the Shores of Aotearoa New Zealand, about 800 AD.

After about a month at sea, intrepid Polynesian voyagers make landfall in a strange new land – Aotearoa New Zealand.
The native birds are the Kokako or Blue-Wattled Crow (Calleas cinerea), the Weka or NZ Woodhen (Gallirallus australis) and the Fantail or Piwakawaka (Rhipidura fulginosa).
Bottom right are the brilliant red stamens of the New Zealand Christmas Tree, the Pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) that flowers around our northern coasts in December.
Illustration from the newly published book “Taketakerau, The Millennium Tree” by Marnie Anstis – art by Patricia Howitt.

Kia Ora and Greetings from New Zealand.
For about 14 years I practiced law in Government in our capital city Wellington - a far cry from where I now live on a beautiful 10 acre property in the subtropical Far North. I also taught Business Law at Polytech for the NZ Society of Accountants Professional Qualification. More recently I looked after my elderly mom with Alzheimers for 10 years .
I was forced onto the net by my mother's illness, but ultimately that worked out for the best because the net has become a medium for my REAL passion in life - graphics, illustration and art. My other passions are the outdoors, animals, environment and music. For the last 12 months, I've been focused on illustrating a book due to launch in New Zealand on 20 December.
