How to Make a Website Relevant to the Main Topic Entrepreneur Training

by | on January 26, 2013

In this online entrepreneur training lecture will be discuss how to build a proper website structure. It should be noted that the main topic of a website depends on the specificity of all its web pages. For example, web pages of the website dedicated to the jewelry give information about different types of jewelry. Therefore, jewelry is the main website topic. So, website of an online entrepreneur should be relevant to it. Each web page may contain information about various types of jewelry. The topic of the web page dedicated to bracelets is bracelets when the topic of the web page about necklaces is necklaces. However, the main website topic is jewelry. So, how to make a website relevant to its main topic? It is the task for each online entrepreneur.

Some people may wonder why a small website has higher PR in comparison with a large website. The answer is simple – a website is indexed as a whole topic. It is dedicated to the only topic. Some websites comprise categories dedicated to different topics what causes PR reduction.

Entrepreneur should create all web pages relevant to the main topic

Besides topic, there are numerous factors influencing web page relevance. If I add several entrepreneurweb pages to my website and the information those web pages contain will differ greatly from the main website topic, then PR that reflects the integrity of the information gathered on the website will reduce significantly. No matter how other topics differ from the main topic. In one way or another, it will influence negatively the website PR. An online entrepreneur should know about this fact. Despite the website still contains topic-related web pages, the main website topic will become obscure. We have already mentioned a jewelry website where each web page gives the information about different type of jewelry – necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. However, the main website topic is ‘jewelry’ and not ‘necklaces’. But, if we talk about a website describing necklaces only, then its main topic will be ‘necklaces’. And using this keyword, such a website has the opportunity to get higher PR in comparison with the website that has the main topic ‘jewelry’. In one way or another, the result will depend on various factors, but topic is one of the most important among them.

Most websites do not describe necklaces or other topic in detail. As a rule, they include general topics. However, we have the opportunity to determine topics for each web page. Let’s suppose that a jewelry website contains the information about bracelets, rings and necklaces when each web page must tell about three types of jewelry. How is it possible to determine the main website topic and the topic of a web page in this case? The information about these articles of jewelry is spread on the website at random. Therefore, it’s hard to determine the topic of each web page. The information about a particular type of jewelry won’t be predominant on any web page. The same holds true for a website topic as well.

Now let’s suppose that the website is divided into categories which contain information about necklaces, rings and bracelets separately. The content of every web page in each category correspond to the main topic. This provides high PR for web pages.

Entrepreneur should pay attention to link text

In order to help search engines determine correctly the topic of each web page, the texts of links should correspond to the topics of web pages. It’s extremely important to use link text properly.

Google compares link text with the content of a web page it refers to. Thus, link with ‘hand-made bracelets’ text will be considered a part of the web page that this link indicates. If the web page is really dedicated to the hand-made bracelets, then link text will increase the value of the topic.

The experiment has been made in order to determine whether link text is really important. Links leading to some particular webpage and containing the same text were provided from different websites. The content of the webpage even didn’t include the phrase provided in the text of links. Due to this fact, the web page had PR1. This method has become known as “Google bombing”.

This is all we can say about topics. However, topic is not the only factor that can influence the website PR. The main factor is the number of websites referring to your website. In order to determine correctly the main topic of the website offering different products, an online entrepreneur is recommended to divide website structure into different categories. The main web page of each category should be provided at website homepage. It would be expedient to name subcategories according to the products they are dedicated to. Thus, it will be easy to navigate from the homepage to any other web page of a website. So, the homepage will be focused on the main key phrase e.g. jewelry. As to sub-web pages of website, they will be optimized on other keywords – necklaces, bracelets, rings and others. However, homepage will continue to be relevant to the main topic. In our example it is jewelry.  If there are different types of a product, for an online entrepreneur it is better to create additional sub-categories using the above-mentioned technique.
