How To Drive Traffic in Google Search with Search Engine Optimization for an Entrepreneur Part 1

by | on February 10, 2013

The main task of every online entrepreneur is to understand how websites are ranked in search engines. However, it should be noted that none knows what the exact formula of Google algorithm is. So, optimizing websites to get high search engine rankings an online entrepreneur has the certain strategy. This strategy is based on experience and general tips shared by other SEO experts. Despite the fact that the algorithms of popular search engines change from time to time there are instructions, which help an online entrepreneur to achieve SEO improvement for a website. As a rule, a SEO strategy implies three main things: keyword research, onsite optimization and link development.

Entrepreneur training – the work of search engines

The number of daily performed search engine queries regularly changes. Due to the fact entrepreneurthat the Internet actively develops now this number rapidly increases day by day. When searching for the necessary information in web users enter keywords in a search engine string. Search engines analyze these queries and display websites, which are more relevant to requested information.   Search engine “spiders” are considered to be special automated programs, which gather information about various websites available in the Internet. Then search engines give the authority to each of websites. A “spider” downloads information to its servers. Afterwards, the gathered data are sorted by another program. It is so called an “indexer”. Both programs regularly work and update search engine results. New data and online resources are added. The information is indexed by cycles. Each search engine has its own algorithm, but this information is kept in secret for everyone – an entrepreneur, marketer and an average user.

Entrepreneur training – the history of  SEO

It should be noted that the first SEO technique appeared more than 10 years ago. A famous search engine guru and the main editor of Search Engine Land, Danny Sullivan, published it at his own blog that is dedicated to search engines. By 1995, SEO was considered to be one of the most popular methods of obtaining high search engine rankings. At that time the competition of websites began. Each an online entrepreneur wanted to be a leader in his business sector.

Each search engine algorithm has its own history. “Backrub” is considered to be the first algorithm developed by students of Stanford University. This program was finally used as a standard way to analyze links in Google. Later, this algorithm was renamed into Page Rank that is actively used now to analyze links in Google. So, each webpage has its own weight. An online entrepreneur has to be aware of the fact that ranking websites Google takes into consideration not only content of web pages, but also their incoming links.

Search engines had to evolve quickly, because the algorithms of that time left much to be desired. In most cases search engines didn’t provide users with corresponding results. There was a great deal of complaints from users in the end. Search engine results depended on webmasters providing their websites with the right keywords. So, it was easy to deceive the system at that time. For example, it was enough for a webmaster to fill in sales web pages of products with the necessary keywords. That simple strategy worked effectively at that time.

Google search engine was launched in 1998 and the quickly began to gain the popularity among internet users. The system recommended itself as a very reliable and easy-to-use solution. But the main reason for which people chose Google is that the search engine provided users with the most relevant results to their queries. It was initially difficult for an online entrepreneur to deceive Google. Moreover, the search engine algorithm improved each day. For example, today Google has more than 1000 different factors for ranking web pages in search engine results. But most of all the search engine values using keywords in Meta tags, content of web pages, titles, internal and external link text and link popularity of a website. Afterwards, a new search engine algorithm, Inktomi, was invented by SEO webmasters. It was purchased by Yahoo later. Internal links with keywords in anchor text and other processes have become popular methods to get high rankings in search engines.

As a result, Google, Yahoo and Bing have become the most popular search engines. All other small search engines have been forgotten. Very important updates took place in Google algorithm between 2007 and 2010. Google began to fight against spam and purchased links. New method, NOFOLLOW, turned out to be very effective. Thus, Google has started estimating the quality of websites in another way. Now the search engine gives a preference to websites with interesting and valuable content. Google has provided its users with an effective solution and has become the most popular search engine in the end. Today an online entrepreneur has to make more efforts to get high search engine rankings for a website.
