Just Do It and the BIG BUT

Action speaks louder than words. “Taking Action” is critical for a successful life. We know that BUT sometimes we just need to get off our butts.

The Challenge

BUT, there’s a big challenge with “Taking Action.” Everybody knows you have to take action to get things done. That’s no secret. BUT why is it that most of us don’t do it?

Think about it. We all know that if we read more, we’ll learn more, BUT we don’t do it. We know that we get more done when we male plans and organize out time, BUT we’re not doing it. We all know that we should exercise regularly to stay in shape, BUT most of us don’t do it. Why not?

The Reasons

1.) Laziness. Believe or not, I think that one of the reasons is just plain laziness. Isn’t it just easier and more enjoyable for sure at that moment, to watch TV? Guess what, get rid of it. BUT…..

2.) Fear. Often, we do not do what we know we should do is because of FEAR, fear of rejection, fear of success, fear of failure…. One of the BIG blocking stones. The BIG foot on the brake. And I am sure you find excuse to not take action right now, at that moment…BUT

3.) Despair. One more reason is low self esteem, low self conscious, despair. If you think you can’t do it anyway, why even try? You’ve tried it before, why should you do it now? BUT it didn’t work?…

4.) Complacency. I am good, I am happy, everything is FINE, BUT why change and risk it getting worse?

5.) Habits. What about them? If we are in the habit of doing nothing, we’ll keep doing nothing. BUT….

The Change

So, when we all know that we need to take action, and we know that we know and still don’t do it, BUT we want to change, where do we start? What do we do? How?

My suggestion is, take it one action step at a time. Don’t get overwhelmed, that will paralyze you. Get into the state: JUST do it NOW (now or never, right?)

What is stopping you from taking action right now. How do you feel. Is is fear, worry, or just don’t want to…?

If it is fear, ask yourself: What is the worst possible outcome of your action, in this situation? What do you really fear? What is the worst that could happen if you were to take action now? What you can achieve by taking this action. What are the benefits? What is the best possible outcome?

Does the benefit outweigh the risk? If the answer is an overwhelming no, then don’t do it. If the answer is yes, take the action. Move ahead. Now, in the words of Nike sneakers:
JUST DO IT!

The important thing is to start no matter how small the effort is. Most of us know what we should be doing and what is holding us back. Success is doing the things you know you should do. Start small, maintain focus on your end result, and stick with it. NO BUTs, NO quitting.
