Viral Internet Marketing Strategies For Bloggers

by | on February 17, 2013

For bloggers, viral internet marketing strategies are probably one of the most important skill sets that you will ever learn.

But it didn’t always use to be so important.

When blogs first started gaining attention, the number of active bloggers was slim. They all knew each other, and they all linked to each other. The blogging community was a tight nit of people that reaped the rewards of being the first to blog.

Alas, this is no longer the case. Becoming a popular blogger doesn’t happen overnight.

To get noticed, you need to be smart. Your entire approach needs to be based upon intelligent viral marketing strategies.

To make money, to get popular, you need viral internet marketing.

This was created to help you achieve such results. Let’s begin.

Viral Marketing Strategy #1- Set Out Your Goals before You Begin

We know that we need traffic to our blogs to succeed, and in order to do that we need links and social signals.

But before you even begin seeking that, you need to lay out the goals for your blog.

Are you a professional looking for some more clients? Are you seeking to make money from affiliate links? Are you using your blog to promote your own products?

Whatever you goals are, you need to seek to acquire the right type of traffic to meet those goals. The quality of your traffic is far more important than the quantity.

If you are seeking more clients, the traffic you seek to acquire should be people that are potentially interested in what you have to offer.

If you are an affiliate marketer, or if you are promoting your own products, the traffic you seek should be interested in the products that you are promoting.

Lay out your goals first. Think about how you are going to meet them, and the traffic you need, afterwards.

Viral Marketing Strategy #2- The Power of the Headline

Without a killer title capable of turning a browser into a reader, the content you produce might as well not exist.

Think about that for a second.

The first sentence that you write is more important than the entire post itself. From every angle that you approach this concept, there is no denying it.

From an SEO standpoint, the title is the most important factor behind ranking and acquiring organic traffic from the search engines.

From a social media standpoint, the title is the first thing that they see. On twitter, it’s normally the only thing that people see! If you want re tweets and shares, you need to write a title so compelling that they couldn’t possibly resist it.

Within the title, you need to promise some kind of reward or benefit for reading your content; from an entertainment or informative standpoint of course.

However, don’t start writing titles that are entirely unrelated to your content.

Creating a title for a post containing content that fails to meet the expectation you set out is a disaster waiting to happen. You’re only going to annoy your audience, which will do no good for your reputation as a blogger.

People need to believe that what they are about to read is going to be so beneficial that they have to drop everything they are doing, and read it.

Viral Marketing Strategy #3 The Importance Of Storytelling

To truly connect with your audience, you need to become a storyteller. Good stories bring business, they spark inspiration, and they go viral.

Your story should be the foundation for your entire viral internet marketing strategy.

It’s entirely up to you how truthful you portray yourself, and your story. Viral stories don’t necessarily have to be truthful. In fact, some of the best were entirely makeshift.

Personally, I like to be completely truthful. I tell the truth about my life within my blogs because otherwise, I would struggle to come across as sincere.

Also, if you do make it to become a popular blogger, if there is any doubt about your story, it could seriously damage your credibility. As you can probably imagine, this could end catastrophically

Either way, you absolutely have to have a story that people want to hear. If you decide to fabricate upon your story, well that’s up to you.

Viral Marketing Strategy #4- Being Controversial

Using controversy as a viral internet marketing strategy is not something that I personally do often.

Despite this, I had to include it as a viral marketing strategy because it can be ridiculously powerful, when used correctly.

Ana Hoffman recently wrote this controversial post which has over 290 blog comments. She openly attacked over 90,000 bloggers, and it gained her tons of links and social signals.

Drawing attention to yourself and your blog through a controversial approach or topic is probably one of the hardest skills to master.

A particularly popular method is to attack something through your writing. It might be a topic, individual, or a collection of people.

You might even want to attack your fellow bloggers.

You might acquire a bunch of insulting links pointing towards your site from your fellow bloggers, but they are links nonetheless.

Either way, you are drawing attention to your blog, which is what you want, right?

If you are new to viral blogging tactics, save the controversial topics for when you have developed your skills and mastered your blogging voice.

Viral Marketing Strategy #5- Humour

Humour is one of the most powerful viral marketing strategies. Funny pictures and videos are the most common viral material.

Unless you are really smart about the type of pictures and videos that you produce, you will struggle to acquire traffic that is targeted enough to meet your goals as a blogger.

Despite this, there is no denying the potential that pictures and videos has for acquiring a whole bunch of links for your blog.

A more practical approach to humour is to include it within your posts, where appropriate.

Don’t go over the top, or you may end up offending instead. Remember that not everybody has a sense of humour.

Try and use jokes that are specifically targeted at your niche. If you attempt to approach humour in a broader fashion, it might well fall flat.

Viral Marketing Strategy #6- Turning it All Into Profit

Now that we have acquired a bunch of viral internet marketing strategies to help increase the value of our writing as bloggers, let’s take a look at how we can turn those skills into money.

I once stumbled upon a system that 90,000 bloggers are using to create passive income.

Since that day, every single post that I have written has been using that system.

Every single blog post I produce is in pursuit of acquiring passive income, including this one.
