Keeping Up With Change
by Barbie Zabel | on December 22, 2011
Not only is it the Holiday Season with extra shopping, cooking, cleaning, decorating, and getting together with family and friends (the great part!), it has also been a time of tremendous change.
I don’t know about you, but when I go through a transition of any sort of magnitude, for some reason, so do the things all around me!
Back in the beginning of November (well really, it was Halloween, October 31), I became a full paid up member of a new program called The Empower Network, and my life has NOT been the same since.
Splunk all around my blog here for lots more info on Empower.
My life all of a sudden became a whirlwind as new members joined me in droves and my bank account had thousands of dollars of income depositing into it automatically.
New surges of energy also visited my home on several different occasions:
My laptop (in the form of a nasty virus) – into the shop it went, but only for 36 hours – yey!
Our microwave (blew out some of the control panel functions) – under warranty thank goodness!
Our dishwasher (blew its inner fuse and thermal plug) – also under warranty, shew!
Half the house’s circuit breakers blew a couple days ago (including the one for the furnace and stove!) and were out for several hours and needed several hundred dollars to fix.
Gosh, am I forgetting anything?
Oh well, all this was driving us nuts so it seems, as we had not one, but TWO squirrels take a dive into our 50 foot tall chimney!
I called pest control on the first one, and they didn’t get here in time to save the squirrel.
And — I am NOT kidding — just the very next day, ANOTHER squirrel took the same nose dive. (This time, I opened the damper and let him come into the house. After he climbed our Christmas tree to get out the window behind it, he found his way to the front door which I had opened for him – so it was SAVE THE SQUIRREL day for me – yey! – but I don’t recommend anyone else do that as they’re unpredictable in an enclosed space.)
There’s always a silver lining, right? The good that came with all this…
My laptop has been cleaned out both digitally (viruses) and physically (dust) and is running like a top, and you can bet I’m backing it up every coupla days!
We have new electrical hardware, plus a surge protector for the entire house on the way. It will stop a surge in its tracks before it even reaches the circuit breaker box, hallelujah!
And that means all of our appliances will be protected from any of these nasty surges in the future, too.
We have a chimney guard to keep any more squirrels from visiting us through our fireplace.
And as an added bonus, since we were cleaning up the chimney and fireplace anyway, we had a ventless gas log system installed in the hearth. No longer will the heat from our house fly up the chimney when we have a cozy fire going – our home will be heated and humidified instead!
From the Empower Network to the house to the appliances to the squirrels to the fireplace… it’s been a very wild ride the last couple of months, one I wouldn’t trade for anything!
But now for Christmas and on into the New Year, how about a little PEACE, Santa? (Pretty please with whipped cream and a cherry on top???) LOL
