Tips for New Bloggers Part 1 of 2
Welcome new blogger to the network marketing industry. There are many tips for new bloggers out there but unlike most pieces mine will lay it all out there (the good, the bad and the ugly) but don’t fret, I’ll also provide solutions. So, for the newbies out there be prepared for some serious intake of information. If you’re a veteran to this then perhaps I can provide some refreshing updates you could do to your blog or, even better, a new approach to it all. Read on to find out what exactly I’m talking about in my 2-part series.
* Part 1 of 2 – Tips for New Bloggers *
Of course, establishing your own blog is trying. I know, I did it the hard way – completely on my own. Before I found internet marketing I was pouring concrete in the hot Arizona sun. The only time I used a computer was to Google a restaurant’s phone number. Then, three years ago I lost my job and had to find an alternative solution. I turned to the computer and found the way all on my own. Today, I hope to simplify the process for those who (like me) wished there was an outline to follow.
#1 Tips for New Bloggers – You don’t have to be like everyone else
Although it’s good to look at others and see what they are writing about you don’t have to write about those same things. Feel free to write about anything. Whatever interests you will work. If you’re into cars, blog about it. If you’re into fashion, write an article on it. If you’re religious write about Jesus. There’s no wrong choice here. Since the internet literally connects us to millions of people across the world you WILL connect to others with your same interests. Of course, hard core bloggers find what’s current or find the hot topic everyone else is writing about and they do a piece on that in hopes to get seen more and get seen faster. Also, not a bad idea.
Whatever it is you decide to write about it MUST be worthy. What I mean by that is it must be good quality writing, full of helpful information and you gotta be consistent. If you pieces aren’t good then you’ll be “slapped by Google” (which is a bad thing) and people will know you stuff is bogus and won’t come back to read more (also, a bad thing).
#2 Tips for New Bloggers – Stay focused
Find your “niche”. Even though I’m not crazy about the whole idea that your content has to fit into a nice little box (aka niche) it’s been proven that it does work better. So, find something you’re interested in. If you find something you feel passionate about it’ll be easier to write on it. Now, don’t think you can’t ever write about anything else, you most certainly can, but the more consistent you are in a particular field/area of writing then people know where to look and thus you become more recognized. Once you become more familiar to those surfing the net then they feel more comfortable with you and in turn become loyal (a good thing).
#3 Tips for New Bloggers – Perfect your blog
I don’t mean become a perfectionist and scrutinize and analyze every single little thing you do but I do mean DO IT RIGHT. After writing an article, re-read it to make sure you don’t have misspellings or have used the wrong spelling (ie: you’re and your). Verify your punctuation throughout your sentences and at the end of your sentences. Use your spell check feature, refer to a dictionary when in doubt and use a thesaurus to extend your vocabulary and not sound redundant.
Keep in mind the fact that you’re not speaking to a friend or even texting so, don’t write as though you are. Remember your elementary school language classes and write properly, checking grammar, spelling and be coherent. Make sure it flows together. Have correct formatting issues and correct any broken hyperlinks. Be precise, articulate and organized. Never publish a piece with errors and say to yourself, “oh well, it’s already out there.” No, go back to it and fix it. Blogs are a reflection of you and a public record of your voice to the world. Don’t give yourself a bad rep.
#4 Tips for New Bloggers – Understand the market
Starting your own personal blog is similar to starting a new business. You’ll have to have a business plan, which includes a feel for your audience and what it is they are reading about. One great idea for those new to the scene is to read blogs by other people. Ask yourself which ones you really like? Then ask yourself, who’s reading them? Explore, read and comment on other people’s blogs because this will help you become a part of the community.
#5 Tips for New Bloggers – Don’t be afraid to ask for help
As you begin this journey you will get discouraged. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there…and sometimes it still happens to the best of us. I understand, you’re excited, pumped and ready to work hard and earn money. Well, all these feelings begin to fade after a few months of nothing happening. Or, perhaps you work full-time (like me) and can’t write every single day like you’ve been told. Perhaps you get writers block, what then? I really can’t encourage you guys enough to honestly reach out to your fellow bloggers for help. This business is not like your traditional corporate world, we actually help one another. That’s why many of us leave our home email and phone number for you to contact us. Seriously, shoot an email introducing yourself and possibly sharing a link. You could also send a blogger you admire a quick fan-mail letting them know how much inspiration they give you. Become friendly with other bloggers and leave comments on their sites. Then when you come across a glitch or a tech problem you won’t be afraid or embarrassed to send them an “SOS” message. Think of your fellow blogger as an online friend, colleague even a resource. All of us are in this thing together. We’re a community of like minded people willing to help out the guy (or gal) next to us.
#6 Tips for New Bloggers – It’ll be hard work
To become a successful blogger is like becoming a success in any other business, don’t be mistaken. Just because you’re sitting at a computer doesn’t require any less from you. It demands a lot of patience, self discipline, a lot of your personal time and some sacrifices (no more zoning out in front of the tv for hours). If you’re serious about this then this is what it will entail. I spend about an hour writing a piece and that does not include the time spent on reading & responding to emails, posting comments, getting up to speed on the latest things to help fuel my business, planning my next and so on. It can feel like a burden at times—especially if you have a primary job that requires 40-50 hours per week. But, we do it because the payoff is pretty wonderful. As with anything, your hard work and sacrifice will bring great rewards.
This concludes my first half of Tips for New Bloggers. I know it’s a lot to absorb, plus there’s a whole other part to it. Believe it or not, my version is the short & sweet one. Try reading the post titled “51 short steps to blogging”. All of it though is valuable information you must know for your blogging career. Of course, in Part 2 I’ll include the rest of the tips AND also speak about an alternative to setting it up yourself. The alternative is faster, easier and never been done before. Matter of fact, it’s almost too good to be true.
