Neil Armstrong-A Legacy of Fearless Exploration
Yesterday, the world lost the first man to ever step foot on the moon…Neil Armstrong.
It’s been 43 years since the first moonwalk. And yet the footage of that fearless exploration has been replayed so many times, that it often feels like it happened yesterday.
I wasn’t around during that time. I have no recollection of the event or the anticipation of the nation…or the world for that matter. I simply read about it in history class and of course, have seen the countless replays over the years.
The world has changed so much since then. Man has gone on to achieve so many extraordinary things.
And yet, there is something about this fearless exploration that is special.
Fearless Exploration…No Need to Wonder
I wonder what that fearless exploration was like…seeing the moon for the first time. Watching the earth change from a small city landscape to an enormous, beautiful glowing planet.
I wonder what it felt like to spend four days in that tiny shuttle. Or to notice the changes in way the air feels or the shift in temperature.
I wonder what the moon smelled like and how it felt to have moon dust underneath your feet.
Neil Armstrong never had to wonder.
Your Future Depends On Fearless Exploration
I have heard it said that Mr. Armstrong had nerves of steel. I guess you’d have to. Being among the first team of people to leave the earth in a hunk of steel and go to the MOON…would require it.
But still…there had to have been at least a few butterflies in his stomach.
Although, I suspect it was more butterflies of anticipation and excitement, rather than butterflies of fear.
That’s the gift of fearless exploration.
You see, there are many reasons why the 1969 Apollo 11 mission to the moon is so special.
….yes, it was pretty cool…
But it also symbolizes the extraordinary things that ordinary people can do.
I mean, come on…THEY WENT TO THE MOON!
No one had ever done that before! Every thing was new. The team had no idea what to expect.
Things could have gone wrong.
Things did go wrong.
But they adapted.
And in the end, they were VICTORIOUS!
The bar was set high. The goal was set high.
Fearless Exploration Will Get You to the Moon
43 years ago Neil Armstrong and his team went to the moon.
What’s keeping you from going to the moon today?
Too often, we set our goals too low. We set them as things we can already do.
That is not a goal!
A real goal is something that you have never done before.
A real goal is achieved after you have gone through the process and trial and error….
…AFTER your stomach is filled with butterflies of excitement and anticipation…
…after you’ve gone through the process of fearless exploration.
Neil Armstrong is the only person who can ever claim to be the first to walk on the moon.
But the rest of us can get there if we stay open to fearless exploration.
